The Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), Toni Aubynn, has reaffirmed that the Petroleum Hub project is designed to position Ghana as a key energy security corridor in the region.
According to him, the full operationalisation of the hub will attract substantial investment and create employment opportunities for the country’s growing youth population.
Dr. Aubynn made the remarks during an engagement with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), where he explained that the meeting aimed to deepen stakeholders’ understanding and appreciation of the project’s strategic importance to Ghana’s energy security, job creation and industrialisation drive.
“The Petroleum Hub is one of the most ambitious industrial undertakings in Ghana’s recent history. At its core is a design to position this country as an energy security corridor, achieve petroleum price stability for citizens and deliver critical infrastructure such as refineries, storage tanks, petrochemical plants and port facilities at Jomoro,” he said.
He noted, however, that the success of the project will depend on careful planning and collaboration among key stakeholders.
“But ambition alone is not enough. The real question is: how do we build a Petroleum Hub that is economically viable, socially inclusive, environmentally sustainable and beneficial to us and future generations? That is where you, the CSOs, come in,” he added.
The Petroleum Hub project is envisioned as a transformative industrial complex expected to play a central role in shaping Ghana’s energy future. The facility is planned to include refineries, petrochemical plants, jetties, pipelines, storage terminals and modern port infrastructure.
Dr. Aubynn emphasised that the project’s success will rely on strong cooperation between government, investors and civil society to ensure it remains economically viable while also delivering social and environmental benefits for generations to come.
