Two people have lost their lives in a devastating road crash at Lapaz, near Papaye Fast Foods, after a chain collision allegedly triggered by distracted driving.

Eyewitnesses say the incident unfolded when the driver of a black saloon car, reportedly using a mobile phone behind the wheel, ignored a red traffic signal and slammed into another vehicle that had the right of way.

The violent impact forced the second car off course, mowing down an okada rider and a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the road.

Both the motorcyclist and the pedestrian were pronounced dead at the scene before emergency responders arrived.

A pillion rider on the motorcycle survived the crash but sustained injuries and was rushed for medical care.

Officers from the Ghana Police Service have since visited the scene and launched investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision.

Authorities are again urging motorists to avoid distractions and obey traffic signals, warning that momentary lapses can have irreversible consequences.
