According to France Football, Newcastle have made a bid of €12million(£10.46million) for Metz star Ismaila Sarr, as they look to improve their squad following promotion back to the Premier League.

What’s the Word?

The report from France claims that Ismaila Sarr is being chased by a number of clubs from the Premier League and Ligue 1, with Lille and Watford among the interested parties.

However, it is Newcastle who are rumoured to have made the bid for the 19-year-old. The offer is reported to be in the region of €12million with FC Metz hoping to earn €15million(£13.07million) from any deal.

How good has Sarr been this season?

Sarr has been a regular feature for his club this season, featuring 33 times in all competitions for Metz, a pretty impressive tally considering his young age. The pacey left-winger may have caught the attention of clubs around Europe for his natural athleticism and dribbling abilities, which often see him become the subject of numerous fouls.

The Senegalese international has been deployed on both the right and left flanks and has operated efficiently from both positions. While his goals and assists tallies are rather slim, his natural talents bode well for his future progression in the game.

Would Sarr be a good signing for Newcastle?

With winger Christian Atsu already signed permanently this summer at St James’ Park, many fans would feel that Rafael Benitez is better spending his transfer money on other positions in the team.

However, Ismaila Sarr would more likely be considered a long term investment. The youngster would likely be used from the bench for at least one season. His natural talents are obvious and he could well become a Premier League star of the future should Newcastle decide to take the gamble.
