A torrential downpour on Friday, September 12, left sections of the Nsawam–Pokuase highway submerged, disrupting traffic for hours and leaving hundreds of commuters stranded.

The rains, which lasted several hours, caused parts of the road to overflow, forcing many motorists to park by the roadside while others risked navigating through the floodwaters.

Passengers waiting at bus stops along the route were also left stranded, with some voicing frustration over the frequent flooding whenever there is heavy rainfall.

Residents attributed the incident to poor drainage systems and unchecked construction along waterways, calling on city authorities to urgently address the issue.

Although no casualties have been reported, the flooding once again highlights Accra’s recurring vulnerability during the rainy season.
