Ghanaian midfielder, Lawrence Agyekum has noted that there is no competition between himself and Abu Francis at Cercle Brugge as he sees the latter as a big brother even though they play in similar positions.

The 21-year-old arrived at Cercle Brugge from Austrian side, Red Bull Salzburg last summer as he came in to meet fellow Ghanaian international and former Right To Dream player, Francis Abu who has been with the Belgium Jupiler Pro League side since 2022 when he left Danish top flight side, Nordsjaelland.

The two partnered in the heart of midfield for Cercle Brugge on various occasions from domestic league games to playing together in European games as they built a strong bond and telepathy.

In an exclusive interview with Joy Sports, the 21-year-old says his Ghanaian compatriot has been helpful to him since his arrival at the Belgium outfit.

“I didn’t know he [Abu Francis] was playing there. When everything was done, there I went through the club’s profile to see if there a player I can relate with; that was when I followed up with him and when I went to the club I met,” he said.

Abu Francis on the final day of the Belgium Jupiler Pro League season attained a monumental feat with Cercle Brugge as he reached a century of games with the Belgium club in the relegation playoff game against Patro Eisden when they survived relegation.
