The Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspected members of a counterfeit currency syndicate at Odumase-Krobo after discovering fake US dollar notes worth $1.05 million in their possession.

The suspects — Ebenezer Natsu, 20; George Attor, 48; and Bishop Robert Olertey, 54 — were arrested during an intelligence-led operation carried out by officers from the Koforidua Municipal Investigative Team and the Odumase-Krobo Police.

Police said officers discovered 105 bundles of counterfeit US dollar notes in $100 denominations, amounting to $1,050,000, concealed in a black and red-spotted metal trunk at the suspects’ hideout at Laasi.

According to police sources, the operation that led to the arrests on March 11, 2026, followed intelligence received by officers at the Odumase-Krobo Police, led by Detective Corporal Williams Asante.

Investigators believe the suspects were preparing to distribute the counterfeit currency in exchange for Ghana cedis, taking advantage of the busy Odumase-Krobo market day.

Police sources further disclosed that one of the suspects, Bishop Robert Olertey, allegedly offered GH¢200,000 in genuine cash in an attempt to settle the case and avoid arrest.

However, the officers reportedly rejected the offer and proceeded with the arrest, after which the suspects and the seized exhibits were transported to the Odumase-Krobo District Police Command to assist with investigations.

The suspects and the exhibits have since been handed over to the Akosombo Police Division, headed by Doris Grant, for further investigation and necessary legal action.

Police further disclosed that on March 13, 2026, suspect Ebenezer Natsu was arraigned before the Odumase Circuit Court and remanded into custody to assist with ongoing investigations, while the other two suspects were granted police enquiry bail as investigations continue.
