Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested two individuals in connection with an armed robbery that took place on the night of Monday, October 20, 2025, at the Adumasa market.
Officers recovered an assault rifle and live ammunition at the scene. Superintendent Teddy Brown, the District Police Commander, confirmed that police were alerted to the robbery at around 7:30 p.m. by a resident in Bomfa. A swift response team, including Supt. Brown, ASP L.J. Kanton, and the Konongo Divisional Taskforce, along with the Formed Police Unit (FPU) and the District Patrol Team, quickly rushed to the market area.
Initial investigations revealed that three armed robbers arrived on a motorbike, brandishing weapons, including an M47M16A2E assault rifle. They targeted 35-year-old gold merchant Ebenezer Boampong Adubofour, demanding his gold and cash. During the attack, the suspects fired several shots indiscriminately, injuring six individuals. They managed to flee with an unknown amount of gold and money.
However, as residents gave chase, the robbers abandoned their assault rifle, four rounds of live ammunition, and their motorbike, which was later found burnt. Police later arrested two suspects, while the third assailant remains on the run.
The injured victims have been admitted to the SDA Hospital in Nobewam and the Konongo Government Hospital, where they are stable and receiving treatment.
Authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspect and ensure all perpetrators face justice.
