The Ghana Police Service in Yendi has arrested a man and a woman for allegedly posing as Sharaf Mahama, son of President John Dramani Mahama, on the social media platform TikTok.
According to the police, the suspects created a fake TikTok account under the name “Sheriff Mahama,” which they reportedly used to carry out personal activities while presenting themselves as the President’s son.
Authorities say the fraudulent account attracted more than 7,500 followers and accumulated thousands of likes, suggesting significant public engagement before it was detected.
The male suspect has been identified as Abdul Rahaman Zakaria, while investigations are still underway to establish the full role played by the female suspect in the alleged impersonation scheme.
Police officials explained that the arrests form part of broader efforts to combat online impersonation, cyber fraud and related digital crimes.
The suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days.
