The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, on charges of offensive conduct likely to breach the public peace.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 8, police officials said the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman was taken into custody earlier in the day and remains detained.
While the police did not provide full details of the events leading to his arrest, it comes at a time when the outspoken politician has faced heightened public scrutiny in recent weeks.
Authorities added that Abronye will be arraigned before court in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the NPP executive has separately petitioned foreign embassies of Côte d’Ivoire, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Canada, requesting political asylum.
He claims he has been subjected to growing threats and intimidation, which he argues put his safety and that of his family at risk.
