The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals for allegedly plotting to assassinate Daasebre Ayimadu Kantamanto II, the Chief of Akyem Kwabeng and Gyasehene of the Akyem Abuakwa State.

According to police sources, intelligence gathered on October 11, 2025, revealed a scheme to eliminate the Chief ahead of his upcoming Royal Durbar scheduled for October 17 in Akyem Kwabeng.

Acting swiftly on the information, the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) deployed a special team to infiltrate the group suspected of orchestrating the plot.

Cash offer to undercover officers

During a covert operation on October 12, the first suspect, Emelia Akua Asor, aged 47, allegedly offered GH₵50,000 to undercover officers to assassinate both Daasebre Ayimadu Kantamanto II and a woman believed to be the newly installed Queen Mother of Akyem Kwabeng.

Investigators say Emelia directed a second suspect, Butuakwa Seth, aged 48, to accompany the officers to Akyem Kwabeng to identify the Chief and the Queen Mother’s residence. Seth reportedly led the team to the locations and provided a photograph of the Chief to facilitate the attack.

Police say the suspects also promised an additional GH₵50,000 upon the successful execution of the plan.

Suspects in custody

Both suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with further investigations.

The Police Command has commended the intelligence team for their swift intervention, which likely averted a major tragedy in the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area.

Authorities have assured the public that all individuals connected to the plot will be apprehended and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
