The Ghana Police Service in the Tema Region has intercepted a truck transporting a large consignment of substances suspected to be narcotics, leading to the arrest of two individuals accused of attempting to bribe police officers.
According to a statement from the Tema Regional Police Command, the intelligence-led operation was carried out in the early hours of February 15, 2026, at about 12:10 a.m., by officers from the Regional Patrols Unit stationed at Sege Akpla Manya.

Police said the intercepted vehicle, a Sinotruck tipper truck with registration number GN 993-14, was disguised as a fertiliser haulage truck.
Upon inspection, officers discovered 3,009 slabs of dried plant material suspected to be cannabis, concealed in fertiliser sacks. The driver reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene when he noticed the police presence.

The truck and its contents have since been secured at the Tema Regional Police Headquarters as investigations intensify to trace the driver and establish ownership of the vehicle.
In a related twist, police arrested Victor Asigbey, 40, and Peter Asigbey, 35, on February 16, 2026, after they allegedly attempted to bribe officers at the Regional Criminal Investigations Department office in Tema.

The suspects are accused of offering GH¢150,000 in a bid to influence the release of the seized truck and its contents.
The cash has been retrieved and preserved as evidence, while the suspects remain in police custody assisting with investigations. They are expected to be arraigned before court on February 18, 2026.
The Tema Regional Police Command has reiterated its resolve to clamp down on narcotics trafficking and warned that any attempts to undermine law enforcement through bribery will be firmly dealt with under the law.
