The Cyber Security Unit of the Ghana Police Service, working alongside the Kade Police, has arrested five suspects in connection with the violent assault of Michael Quayson, a teacher at Kade Senior High Technical School in the Kwaebibirim Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The suspects were picked up on Monday, January 5, 2026, after travelling from Accra to Kade, following weeks of investigations into the shocking incident.

Confirming the arrests, Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Awoonor Yevu Godwin, told Citi News that the suspects are expected to be arraigned before the Kade District Court on Wednesday morning.

Preliminary findings suggest the assault dates back to October 5, 2025, when the suspects—believed to be former students of the school—allegedly attacked the teacher in anger over his strict supervision during the Christian Religious Studies paper in the 2025 WASSCE.

The incident sparked nationwide outrage and condemnation, drawing strong reactions from President John Dramani Mahama, the Ghana Education Service (GES), and NAGRAT at the national level. Authorities have consistently assured the public that those responsible would be identified and prosecuted.

With the arrests now made, education stakeholders say the development sends a clear signal that violence against teachers will not be tolerated, as calls grow for stronger protections for educators across the country.
