The Central Regional Police command Wednesday night foiled a planned robbery attack on some residents of Mankessim.

Two of the seven suspected robbers who blocked the Mankessim-Samaria road in order to carry out their operation, have been arrested to assist in investigations into the case.

They have been identified as Alex Gardner, 20 years and 23-year-old Cosmos Acquah.

Police retrieved from them two knives, tramadol tablets, a kiss condom, one screwdriver, four nails and one mobile phone.

A taxi registered AS 8798-12 which was being used for the operation was also impounded by the Police.

Police say the Mankessim Divisional Patrol team received information at about 10:15pm Wednesday that a robbery operation was going on at Mankessim-Samaria.

According to the police, the team proceeded to the scene of the crime and met a group of men numbering about seven with Hyundai Atos taxi. They had barricaded the road with concrete blocks.

“The suspects on seeing the police advancing from Mankessim direction bolted,” Central Regional Police PRO DSP Irene oppong said.

The team, she said, pursued them and managed to arrest two of the suspects.

“Due to the timely arrival of the police, the robbers could not carry their operation,” she stated.

She said the road was then cleared and the suspects taken to the Makessim Police Station.
