The Ghana Police Service has begun investigations after a Kia truck loaded with 36 sacks of substances believed to be Indian hemp was intercepted at Asesewa in the Eastern Region.

The vehicle, bearing registration number ER-760-23, was stopped along the Sekesua road on September 30, 2025. During a search, officers discovered that while the truck appeared to be carrying sawdust, it was also concealing 36 bags of the suspected narcotics.

The truck was seized and sent to the Sekesua Police Station, but the driver and his mate reportedly fled, evading arrest. Security agencies say a manhunt has been launched to track down the fugitives.

The seized sacks are currently secured at the Eastern Regional Command. Police have dismissed social media claims that the exhibits had mysteriously turned into sawdust, stressing that the suspected drugs remain intact.

In addition, the Police Professional Standards Bureau has opened an internal inquiry as investigations continue.
