Business activities have come to a standstill in many parts of the Volta Region following a planned power outage in the Volta and Oti Regions.

The outage according to the ECG, is to allow the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) to perform some maintenance works on the bulk power supply point at Asiekpe.

Business owners in the Ho municipality are however saying the outage will have a significant impact on their businesses.

Even though some of them fear the outage is a subtle return of the “dumsor” phenomenon, they are still calling on GRIDCo to expedite work on the Supply Point.

“The government has to seriously do something about it because there is already serious hardship in the system and with the issue of light adding on, it’s a lot for us to handle, so we are appealing to the government to look into the issue,” a resident stated.

“This light out is affecting our business because we normally retail it so when there is lights out and the fish and meat we have in store get de-frozen, we get a lot of complaints from customers as well about the quality of the products we have,” a business owner lamented.

Another business owner told Citi News that the issue with the lights has affected the productivity levels of he and his workers.

“We are unable to be productive at work because of the lights issue. My apprentice and I just come and sit here without doing anything. As you can see, because there are no lights for us to work, and we keep hearing that we are going back to the era of ‘dumsor’ and as it stands, we don’t know what to do. I don’t have any money to buy a generator as well.”
