Maame Dokono, who had experienced the downside of being a politician in the creative space, has advised others to be wary of treading a similar path.

The veteran actress has informed creative industry stakeholders who are actively involved in politics of the scary times ahead if their party fails to win an election.

“If you’re going into politics and you’re an artiste, pray that your party wins, because if your party loses, you will be shut down by everybody. They won’t cast you and they will not let people even watch your film,” she stated in an interview on GTV.

Recounting her own experiences, Maame Dokono said she wasn't given any movie roles and was sidelined for about two years.

‘I wasn't cast for about two years,” she recalled.

Looking back with regret, the popular actress said she wouldn't have associated herself with politics to that extent.

On the same platform, she also recounted how her involvement with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) brought the production of her famous ‘By the fire side’ series to an abrupt end.

“The NPP was doing something at Cape Coast, and at that time, a few of the artistes were behind Nana Addo. I was also there, and I was the one who put up a performance before Nana Addo came on stage. The party members liked my zeal on stage, and they said I was a hotcake, so they wanted me to join their party. They asked if I'd like to join the NPP and I hurriedly said yes.

“I didn't know it was going to create a problem between me and the former first lady. It messed up my relationship with her brutally, and she took everything from me. She was at that time sponsoring ‘By the fire side’. She gave me a van, camera equipment, and so on, but she took everything back, and that was the end of ‘By the Fireside’,” she stated.
