Amman: Kuwait SC staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Al Wehdat SC 3-2 in their 2019 AFC Champions League Preliminary Stage One tie at the King Abdullah II Stadium on Tuesday.

Down 2-0 by the 31st minute, Kuwait SC fought back to seal a place in Stage Two, with a meeting with Islamic Republic of Iran's Zobahan FC on February 12 up next for them.

It was a thrilling tie from the first blow of the referee's whistle as Jordan's Al Wehdat seized immediate control of the match.

Their sustained pressure had Kuwait SC, appearing in the AFC Champions League for the first time since 2014, camped deep in their half.

Al Wehdat's aggression was rewarded in the 10th minute with forward Hamza Ali Aldaradreh giving the home side the lead.

The Jordan club doubled their lead in the 31st minute with striker Hamza Ali Aldaradreh finding the back of the net.

Kuwait SC, however, were far from beaten and striker Faisal Alharbi pulled them back into the tie with his effort in the 39th minute.

Having reduced the deficit, a motivated Kuwait SC began to see more of the ball and their pressure paid off just before half-time when they were awarded a penalty, which Alharbi buried with aplomb.

With everything to play for after a breathtaking end to the first half, both teams went in search of a third goal.

Both sides had their chances but Kuwait SC were the ones to complete their remarkable comeback as forward J. Saeed scored the winner in the 68th minute to give his side a chance of advancing to the group stage.
