Bacolod City: Yangon United of Myanmar sealed a place in the 2019 AFC Champions League second preliminary stage after defeating Ceres Negros of the Philippines 2-1 at the Pana-ad Park and Football Stadium in Bacolod City on Tuesday.

It was a well deserved victory as Yangon United were not fazed with Ceres Negros' home ground advantage as the Myanmar side took the match to their opponents.

Their positive approach paid rich dividends as Brazilian Vinicius de Oliveira gave them the lead in the 29th minute.

A stung Ceres Negros, whose 2018 AFC Champions League hopes ended in the playoffs after they suffered a 3-2 defeat to Tianjin Quanjian of China PR, injected more pace into their game.

Their aggressiveness paid off as Philippines international Stephan Schröck finishing a pass from Martin Steuble just before the half time whistle was blown.

Yangon United, however, continued to play with aggression and substitute Kaung Htet Soe restored their lead in the 59th minute.

Ceres Negros tried to find the equaliser but it was to no avail as Yangon United sealed a meeting with Thailand's Chiangrai United in the second stage of the preliminary round on February 12.
