Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC) grabbed it's 6th National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) glory, after eleven years hiatus, brushing off stiff competitions from Adisadel (Adisco) and Opoku Ware (OWASS).

It was an all boys school affair, but a total of 36 points was good enough for the blue-shirted Presbyterian to run away in triumph, leaving Adisadel and Opoku Wari with 31 and 21 points,  respectively.

This year's competition was given various twists as the schools came from different regions, with different  Christian denominations, but it was the Greater that had the last laugh.

PRESEC, a Presbyterian-owned school from Greater Accra opened a 5 points lead in the first round, grabbing 14, with Catholic-owned OWASS of the Ashanti Region and Anglican's Adisadel from the Central Region following with 9 and 7, respectively.

They maintained their lead through the second round, increasing their tally to 18, while Opoku Ware dropped a point with Adisco remaining at 7.

The round three had all schools increasing their points but it was Adisco who grabbed more with 8 to jump to the second position with a total of 15.

With 5 points increase PRESEC remained on top with 23 while OWASS remained at the bottom with 14, despite adding 6 more points.

The round 4 became an Accra vrs Cape coast affair, whiles the 'Kumericans' were left behind, gasping for air.

PRESEC jumped to 33 points maintaining their lead but it was  the Anglicans who  amassed 28 points to reduced the deficit to 5, whiles OWASS were left behind with 10 points between them and the second placed school.

But it was too little too late for Adisadel to catch up in the final rounds with its total 33 points as both schools added 3 points each to their tally of which PRESCEC ran away with 36, whiles their Ashanti regional contenders could not rise above their 21.

The final round began with nervousness as Adisadel, that had 31 points, was not willing to give Presec the win after they pressed their buzzer while the quiz mistress was reading the first clue for the last riddle.

Getting it right would give the school five points, however, for answering Coriolis effect Mbebo failed to win the five marks for Adisadel College leaving Presec as the ultimate winner.

This year’s competition has been a thrilling experience even in the face of Covid-19 as the schools brought wit, intellect and class.
