Flagbearer hopeful, Stephen Atubiga has kicked against former President John Dramani Mahama having a second bite of the cherry at the Presidency by contesting for the Flagbearership slot of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, the former Ghanaian Leader who’s yet to declare his intention over his Presidential ambitions has had enough of the Presidency after serving first as the Vice President for four years and subsequently as President, adding that that he should leave the scene for other competent persons to lead the NDC and ultimately the country.

“…If they’re saying JDM, I would have said that without fear because JDM stands taller than all of us. He’s once been President but none of the rest of us has even been.  He’s been Vice President before, none of us has ever been one, God being so good his legacy in this country is shown black and white someone who has ever won power is not able to match up. But having said that, don’t forget that Presidency is not like two lovers having sex, when day breaks one partner asks for a second round, ” he said on the Platform show on Peace FM.

Stephen Atubiga whom many political watchers say his inclusion in the Flagbearer race is an exercise in futility and a waste of time and resources has said he hopes to make former President John Mahama his running mate if structures of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will permit him.

“If I had the opportunity if the constitution allowed and the party structures allowed me, I would not mind making his Excellency John Dramani Mahama my running mate,” Atubiga said on Eyewitness News recently.

Atubiga also stated that he will make Prof. Alabi and Sylvester Mensah his special advisor and Foreign Affairs Minister respectively if he becomes President.

Prof. Alabi will be a very good Special Advisor to me. Sylvester Mensah will be a very fine Foreign Affairs Minister. Bagbin who is my big brother, I’ve gotten close to him, he will be a very good speaker under my leadership and he will get to taste the presidency when myself and my vice have traveled.

“If you look at the party, I am the best choice right now. I have made NDC so attractive.

Some other candidates including former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Sylvester Mensah and former Vice Chancellor of the University for Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Prof. Joshua Alabi have also declared their intention to contest.
