Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu says the presidency has not yet received the petition filed by Electoral Commission staffer Joseph Blankson Adumadzie calling for the removal of EC Chairperson Jean Mensa and her two deputies.
Kwakye Ofosu, who is also the MP for Abura Asebu-Kwamankese, explained that such petitions are typically routed through the Secretary to the President. However, he said the Secretary has not sighted the document.
"Normally, it will go to the Secretary to the President if it is addressed to the President. I've engaged him. He has not sighted it yet, but I'm sure that if he does, there's a process, a long-standing process, that this goes through, and any information on that will be conveyed to your public before this one," he stated.
Asked whether any similar petition had been submitted, the spokesperson said he was not aware of one. He added that if another petition exists and reaches the Secretary’s office, the public would be informed just as they were in the case involving the Chief Justice.
Kwakye Ofosu stressed that government remains committed to openness while respecting constitutional procedures. He said the current approach reflects a deliberate effort to keep citizens informed because public officials hold office in trust for the people.
He noted that when a petition is filed against any public office holder, it is only fair to inform the public that it has been received, outline the procedures involved and explain the next steps.
According to him, the aim is to prevent situations where major decisions appear to emerge without public understanding of the process. Transparency and accountability, he said, guide this practice, but always within the limits of the law.
