The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested Bright Aweh, a key suspect in the murder of Immigration Officer Steffen King Amoah, whose partially burnt body was found in a gutter near the GBC Satellite area, opposite Comet Estate, on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.
The officer had been declared missing five days earlier, prompting a search that ended in tragedy.
According to a statement issued by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the region, Aweh was the last person known to have contacted the deceased.
Investigators say he lured Amoah to a meeting on the evening of July 3 by sending WhatsApp photos of large sums of money and offering to settle an outstanding debt.
During interrogation, Aweh admitted to giving GHS 500,000 in cash to Amoah, allegedly for debt settlement and safekeeping.
However, his failure to explain the origin of the funds, along with a series of inconsistent statements, deepened suspicions surrounding his involvement in the officer’s death.
Amoah’s remains were later identified by relatives at the Police Hospital morgue, despite being severely burnt and bearing signs of multiple stab wounds—a discovery that points to foul play and a possible attempt to destroy evidence.
Police have urged the public to assist in the ongoing investigation. Anyone with information that could aid the case is encouraged to report to the nearest police station or call emergency numbers 18555 or 192.
The arrest of Bright Aweh is considered a major breakthrough in what has become one of the capital’s most chilling murder cases this year.
