Prison officer arrested for attempting to photograph ballot paper

A prison officer at Nsawam Prisons, Emmanuel Tawiah, was apprehended on Thursday, December 5, 2024, for attempting to take a picture of his ballot paper after casting his vote during the special voting exercise.

The incident occurred in the Ayensuano constituency of the Eastern Region, where polling agents and security personnel reportedly caught Tawiah in the act.

He was confronted and subsequently arrested by the police for violating electoral regulations.

Strict measures are in place to ensure the secrecy of the ballot and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.

Investigations are expected to follow to determine the motive behind his actions and any potential repercussions.

Meanwhile, two persons have also been arrested in preceding days for similar crimes.

A temporary Electoral Commission (EC) official was on Monday, December 2, 2024, arrested during the Special Voting exercise in Bimbilla in the Northern region.

This was after the official identified as Gerti Justice allegedly took a picture of his ballot.

Also, a voter at the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency was apprehended by the police for attempting to take a photograph of their marked ballot paper.
