Ghanaian forward Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer was among the standout performers as Hamburger SV cruised to a 6-3 victory over Dutch side FC Groningen in a lively midweek friendly on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old, who recently netted his first Bundesliga goal to rescue a point for HSV at the Volksparkstadion against third-placed Borussia Dortmund, continued his resurgence with a well-taken strike just nine minutes after coming off the bench. Though he won’t feature in Ghana’s Kirin Cup tour in Asia, Konigsdorffer remains in camp as Hamburger prepare for their post-break clash against Augsburg.
The friendly, played in front of a spirited home crowd, saw Emir Sahiti open the scoring with a rebound from Imanuel Pherai’s effort. Pherai doubled the lead moments later, before Arsenal loanee Fabio Vieira added a third just before halftime to cap a dominant first half.
Groningen responded early in the second half through David van der Werff, but Sahiti’s second restored HSV’s cushion. Van der Werff struck again to make it 4-2, before Konigsdorffer’s goal extended the lead. However, Mark Hoekstra’s fine finish kept the visitors within touching distance at 5-3.
Guilherme Ramos sealed the win late on, rounding off a high-scoring encounter that offered valuable minutes for fringe players and a confidence boost for Konigsdorffer, who looks poised to play a bigger role in HSV’s campaign after the international break.
