Founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jerry Rawlings, has chided Alban Bagbin for the harsh words he used against John Mahama.

Alban Bagbin had stated that the cause for the NDC's defeat in the 2016 elections was mainly due to the decision to appoint persons with disability to top roles.

Jerry Rawlings has found these comments as unacceptable and contrary to the values and principles of social inclusion of the NDC party.

In a press statement, Jerry Rawlings stated that “ such utterances have the tendency to negatively affect the unity and cohesion of the party,”

So far, top executives of the NDC have called for Alban Bagbin to be summoned to the party's disciplinary committee to answer questions on the motive behind his utterances.

Mr. Bagbin had earlier described the Mahama’s administration as an “animal farm” government which did not bode well for hard working party members.

Bagbin's road to election 2020

A special aide to Alban Bagbin, Konoba Joe, has revealed that the second deputy speaker of parliament will be picking nomination forms to contest the flagbearship position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2020 elections.

Konoba Joe reveals that “what Hon. Alban Bagbin has done since 1992 is to serve his people and that call is emanating again. That call is for him to even occupy a higher position to serve the party well and that is the position of the NDC flagbearership”.

Konoba in an interview with the media revealed that “everything has its season and this is a season for the re-organization of the party.

The revelation made by the aide comes in the wake of speculations by the Alhajj newspaper that founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jerry John Rawlings is planning to kick out the former president, John Mahama from leading the party in the 2020 elections.

A publication by the Al-Hajj newspaper, which was picked up by YEN.com.gh claims that some key personalities of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) secretly meeting the Rawlingses at Ridge to launch image smearing campaign against Mahana to make him unpopular.

Mahama's 2020 journey

John Mahama has made known his intentions to contest the 2020 elections. The former president has stated in a latest video that he is ready to serve Ghana again.

Mahama, is reported to have been massively endorsed by members of parliament under the party. Details of the votes show that 94 out of 106 NDC legislators want the former president to contest the 2020 elections.

The former president, John Mahama, earlier paid a courtesy call on the founder of the NDC, Jerry John Rawlings. This move can be seen by all as a very strategic one if indeed the former one-term president is poised to contest elections yet again in the 2020 elections. ]

It is no secret that Jerry Rawlings has been the fulcrum upon which several elections are positioned hence the strategy by Mahama to pay a courtesy call on him. Already, Jerry Rawlings has had his take on the politics of the NDC as he attributed their defeat in 2016 to greed and corruption.

There have been various pictures of an obvious rift between the former president and some key officials of the party. Looking at the entire composure of John Mahama, it is clear he has gained the support from Jerry Rawlings and thus eager to win the hearts of Ghanaians.
