European Championship winner and Bayern Munich midfielder, Renato Sanches has been named winner of the European Golden Boy award beating the Nigerian duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi.

The European Golden Boy award put together by Italian newspaper, Tutto Sport listed an array of exciting young talents in the shortlist of the award last month.

19-year-old Sanches is to be handed a trophy at a Monte Carlo ceremony after beating off contenders like Manchester City starlet, Iheanacho, Arsenal’s Iwobi. His Bayern’s Kingsley Coman and AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma were other contenders.

The winner was decided by votes from journalists representing 30 newspapers across Europe to name the best player in 2016 under the age of 21.
