President Nana Akufo-Addo has urged Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executives to forge good relations with the Members of Parliament and party constituency executives in their areas of jurisdiction.

Addressing the MMDCEs at an orientation conference at Madina in Accra Wednesday, the President noted that it is only through harmony among leaders at the local level that the government can progress.

“Those of you having strained relationships with your MPs should redouble your efforts at harmony…” he urged.

He explained that fractured relations among leaders have gone a long way to affect the chances of ruling parties in winning elections 2000, 2008 and 2016.

“…the misfortune of ruling parties had a lot to do with the collapse in relations among MMDCES and MPs and constituency executives,” he said.

He added that good relations among the MMDCES and the legislators will “inure to our collective benefits and guarantee greater development to the welfare of Ghanaian people”.

The President also called on the MMDCEs to collaborate with one another to solve issues such as sanitation that affects their respective areas.

Speaking on some social intervention programmes of his government, Nana Akufo-Addo lauded the Planting for Food and Jobs programme (PFJ); which he said has multiplied farmers’ produce across the country.

The President said the PFJ has been successful that Ghana hasn’t imported maize into the country in 2018.  “This year, we have not imported a single grain of maize,” he said

Speaking on other interventions of the government, the President touted the Free Senior High School policy stating that some 270,000 more students have been able to access second cycle education because of the policy.

He added that his government has revived the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) “to make the NHIS card once again meaningful”.
