Residents of Adenta have blocked the main Adenta-Madina road after a car run over a female student of the West African Senior High School, WASS, around 3:15pm on Thursday.

The angry residents blocked the road with blocks and set tyres ablaze to register their displeasure against government for failure to complete construction works on abandoned footbridges for close to ten years.

“All the government knows is passing unnecessary policies while our cherished family members perish on daily basis along this stretch. We threatened to protest on Monday but we were stopped. We will not sit here unperturbed! We will stage series of protests until government fixes this problem,” an irate eyewitness told Asempa News.

The violence spread across neighboring areas as the police fire warning shot into the air to disperse the crowd that was mainly youth.

However, the crowed continued to throw objects at the police and tried to block other alternative routes that motorists were using.

The Madina-Adentan road has been a source of numerous deaths as speeding vehicles hit crossing pedestrians who attempt getting to the other side.

The deaths reported to be over 190 led to a planned demonstration by residents demanding action from elected Assemble Members, Highway Authorities, MPs and leadership of the country.

Yaw Buaben Asamoah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Adenta speaking on the matter earlier in the week explained that the decision by residents of Madina and Adenta is a democratic right to bring to the notice of government matters that concern citizens.

He, however, cautioned the organizers to ensure the protest does not turn violent.
