Former Hearts of Oak striker Reuben Senyo has urged for the dissolution of the Black Stars following their disappointing performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

His comments come in light of the team’s 2-0 defeat to Sudan at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Libya, which has left Ghana's hopes of qualifying for the tournament hanging by a thread.

With this latest loss, the four-time African champions remain winless after four qualifying matches, and the prospect of missing out on the CAF's premier tournament next year in Morocco is increasingly likely.

The last time Ghana failed to qualify for the AFCON was in 2004.

Speaking on Bryt FM, Senyo expressed his dismay, stating, “It is about time we dissolve the Black Stars because there is nothing we can get from this crop of players.

We have to turn our attention to the local league because we had players from the Ghana Premier League who performed better for the national team years back.

The likes of Dan Quaye, Charles Taylor, Shilla Illiasu, Habib Mohammed, and others played for the Black Stars while playing in Ghana.”

As Ghana seeks to keep their AFCON hopes alive, they must secure victories against already-qualified Angola and Niger, while also relying on Sudan to falter in their matches against the same opponents.
