Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori debunked the claim of retiring from active football any time soon. The 31-year-old shot stopper capped a fine campaign in the just ended season where he was pivotal in AmaZulu’s sixth place finish with 38 points in the South African PSL Betway Premiership— five places above their former place in the previous 2023/2024 season, where they finished 11th on the league log
The Durban based outfit had a better outing in the just concluded campaign and will be looking to continue in their strides as they look to improve as the season progresses.
In an interview with Kick Off, the former Wa All Stars goalkeeper indicated that he has a lot of playing years left in him.
"I’m thinking about it (retirement) in a sense of planning ahead, you know. But not in terms of I’m thinking of retiring soon, no. I think for a goalkeeper, I still have many playing years in me," Ofori said.
"I’ve recently joined this beautiful family at AmaZulu, and it’s a big team with big ambitions. It’s an awesome environment and a great family. The team is good, the players, the management, everyone is loving. So, I am enjoying my football."
“I’m working hard to help the team achieve these ambitions and fulfil what we believe is the team’s potential. Overall, I’m very happy." The former Maritzburg shot stopper asserted.
Ofori showed up and made twenty-two (22) appearances in all competitions, conceding twenty (20) goals and recording nine clean sheets during the 2024/2025 Betway Premiership season. He has been out of the Ghana national team after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament which was staged in Ivory Coast in 2024 where the Black Stars exited in the group stages.
He is expected to face a very strong competition in the coming season as AmaZulu have reinforced their goalkeeping department with the recruitment of former Chippa United shot stopper Darren Johnson.
