A 50-year-old man guarding an ATM farm at the Sunyani Technical University campus has been killed in a suspected robbery operation.

Sumaila Dambila was found dead Thursday dawn seated in a wooden chair with his legs and hands tied to the chair with nylon ropes, and the mouth and nose tied with a white and blue jacket, a police report said.

Although the suspects managed to break into a GCB Bank ATM room, they could not open the safe in which monies had been stored.

Attempt to break into another ATM belonging to the Barclays Bank was unsuccessful.

“…The ATM office of Barclays Bank had been tampered with in an attempt to force it opened but the culprits were not able to break into it,” the police said.

No one has been arrested yet but the police crime scene experts have been able to lift “finger impressions” from the scene.

Head of security at the Sunyani Technical University, Badiwe Mohammed reported the incident to the Police at about 5:30 a.m. Friday.

He was said to have told the police that Sumaila who is an employee of Thomas Security Limited was found dead at about 4:30 a.m. at his duty post at the ATM farm on the University Campus wearing his uniform.

The Police rushed to the scene where evidence and pictures were taken for investigations.

The body of deceased “was photographed, removed and deposited at the Regional Hospital mortuary” after it was certified dead by Dr Akoto Bamfo.

Postmodern is expected to be conducted on the body soon, the police said.
