Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima, or commonly referred to as Brazilian Ronaldo to avoid confusion with Cristiano, managed to round the ‘keeper to score a goal an incredible 88 times during his illustrious career.

Brazilian Ronaldo was a phenomenal player, notching 414 goals in 616 career appearances for club and country.

He possessed many skills that he’ll be remembered for, such as his incredible speed, intricate dribbling and assured finishing, but fans often associate him with one other thing.

Ronaldo’s ability to dribble past the goalkeeper is arguably second to none across the history of football, consistently putting keepers on their backsides before walking it into an empty net.

He did this a frightening number of times, on 88 occasions to be precise.

That’s 21% of his career goals scored in this fashion, it is truly remarkable.

One particularly memorable occasion was in the 2006 World Cup when Brazil faced Ghana.

Brazil ran out 3-0 winners, with the first goal coming from the man himself.

He was put through on goal via a piercing through ball from Kaka, but then it was all about Brazil’s star striker.

A quick step-over with the right foot was enough to put Ghana’s goalkeeper Richard Kingson to the ground, before Ronaldo shifted it to the left and rolled the ball home. Sheer class.

Going past the ‘keeper to score is definitely a move that appears to have gone out of fashion in the modern game.

While goalies may have become more savvy, the reason for its decline is probably that strikers just don’t have Ronaldo’s confidence, or ability.

R9 was a genius and his moves probably still give ‘keepers nightmares to this day.
