Chattanooga Red Wolves SC were denied a win in their USL League One opener as One Knoxville SC salvaged a 1-1 draw with a stoppage-time equalizer at CHI Memorial Stadium.
Ropapa Mensah put the Red Wolves ahead just before halftime, slotting a precise shot into the bottom left corner after latching onto a Pedro Hernandez assist from a set-piece.
The Ghanaian forward’s goal in the 45th minute gave Chattanooga a 1-0 advantage heading into the break.
Despite only controlling 32% of possession, Chattanooga appeared set for a victory with Mensah’s standout performance.
However, One Knoxville upped the pressure in the second half, dominating possession and constantly threatening the Red Wolves’ defense.
Their efforts were rewarded in the 90th minute when DJ Benton’s cross found Dani Fernandez, who calmly slotted the ball home from close range to snatch a point.
Chattanooga will aim to bounce back in their upcoming match against Forward Madison FC on October 12.
