The Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association of Ghana will begin an indefinite nationwide strike on Monday, June 2, 2025, in protest over 12 months of unpaid allowances.
According to the Association, multiple efforts to engage the government on the matter have failed, including a 14-working-day ultimatum issued earlier this month, a move they say has been met with silence.
Speaking to Citi News, the Association’s President, Ebenezer Boateng, voiced deep frustration over what he described as the government's continued neglect of their concerns.
“The minister has not communicated officially to us, which is very sad. This is because they see us now as insignificant in the health sector, in the ministry, as well as to the public,” he stated.
The President confirmed that the strike will proceed as planned if the government fails to respond with concrete action.
“On June 2, we are going on a nationwide strike. We do not want to hear any story from them. This has been a consistent problem for about five years now. All they give is an assurance — we don’t need that now,” he said.
The Association insists that the decision to withdraw services is a last resort, triggered by years of unfulfilled promises and persistent delays in the payment of allowances.
