Last night news emerged about the opposition NDC selecting former finance minister Dr. Kwasi Botchway as running mate to flag bearer John Mahama.

The news was quickly dismissed by the flag bearer and ex President John Mahama with a statement on his official social media pages urging the public to disregard it since it was fake news.

The deputy communications director of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Peter Boamah Otukonor claims that news of the NDC selecting a running mate was a carefully orchestrated means by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to divert attention from the NAM1 news conference that was done in the afternoon.

Speaking in an interview with Accra based Neat FM, the deputy communication director said the NPP deliberately leaked that news to pro-NPP media houses.

“Its no surprising that news came from the NPP camp with collaboration from their media henchmen since we just don’t select running mates.”

“We must finish with our primaries before we will even think about the issue of running mate.”

“Even after that the flag bearer must select someone before the person is brought before the functioning executive committee before a press conference is held to announce the chosen one so people should disregard the fake news from the NPP and their media cronies” he stressed.
