Ghanaian midfielder Salis Abdul Samed was part of the Sunderland squad that pulled off a dramatic comeback victory over Sheffield United in the English Championship play-off final on Saturday afternoon at Wembley Stadium.

Teen sensation Tom Watson sealed the win for Sunderland with a 96th-minute strike, securing a 2-1 triumph that sends the Black Cats back to the Premier League for the first time in eight years.

Watson, who is set to join Brighton and Hove Albion next season, calmly curled a low shot past Michael Cooper to complete the turnaround in spectacular fashion.

Sheffield United had dominated much of the match, taking the lead through Tyrese Campbell in the first half. They nearly doubled their advantage, but a second goal was ruled out by VAR for offside. Sunderland stayed in the fight and drew level through Eliezer Mayenda’s impressive effort in the 76th minute.

The turning point came late in the game when United were temporarily reduced to 10 men, having used all five substitutions before defender Anel Ahmedhodzic was forced off with a head injury. Sunderland took full advantage, with Watson delivering the decisive goal in added time.

Salis Abdul Samed, on loan from French Ligue 1 side RC Lens, was on the bench for the final and did not feature in any of Sunderland's playoff matches. The 25-year-old had a challenging season, making only 11 appearances in all competitions due to recurring knee and muscle injuries that hampered his start in England.

The Ghana international joined Sunderland on a season-long loan after being demoted to the reserves by new RC Lens manager Will Still.

Despite his limited involvement, he ends the campaign as part of a promotion-winning side.

Salis remains under contract with RC Lens until the summer of 2028.
