Richard Duah Nsenkyire, the owner of Samartex, has expressed significant concerns about the financial viability of competing in the CAF Champions League, considering the current prize money awarded by the Ghana Premier League.

Following their historic triumph in the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season, Samartex, known as the Timber Giants, are set to embark on their maiden campaign in the prestigious African tournament.

This achievement came after dethroning Medeama and claiming the GHC500,000 prize money as domestic champions.

Nsenkyire highlighted the insufficiency of the Ghana Premier League prize money in supporting their ambitious Africa campaign.

He stressed the necessity of external financial support to ensure the club's survival and competitive edge in the tournament.

"We can’t survive with this prize money for our Africa campaign. It can’t even pay our bills," Nsenkyire stated, appealing for assistance ahead of their African debut.

"We are representing Ghana in Africa and I expect all corporate bodies, individuals, philanthropists, and others to come to our aid and help us push the agenda.

In the nearest future, our slot in Africa can be increased because when we do well, it automatically benefits everyone in the football family."

As the Samreboi-based club prepares for their debut in the CAF Champions League, they await the announcement of their first opponents in the coming weeks.

Nsenkyire's plea underscores the broader challenge faced by Ghanaian clubs in sustaining continental campaigns amidst limited financial resources.
