Former Ghana International, Samuel Osei Kuffour, is underlining the importance of meticulous planning as Ghana aims for victory in the 2025 or 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), seeking to end a 41-year title drought.
Despite being a four-time AFCON winner, Ghana faces the upcoming 2023 tournament in Ivory Coast with elevated expectations.
Kuffour emphasizes the need for strategic planning, looking beyond immediate success.
Highlighting the distinction between preparation and planning, Kuffour draws attention to the youthful composition of the recent World Cup squad, urging a forward-thinking approach.
Speaking to Peace FM, he notes, "There is a difference between preparation and planning. We are always prepared, but we don't plan the team we took to the World Cup last year.
If you look at the team, 17 players were under 25."
"Why are we forcing ourselves to win the cup in Ivory Coast? We have to think about 2025 or 2027 because by that time, how old will the players be?
We need planning, not just preparation," asserts Kuffour, echoing the call for a long-term vision for Ghana's football success.
As the Black Stars gear up for AFCON, placed in Group B with Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique, Kuffour's insights underscore the significance of strategic foresight for sustainable triumph in future tournaments.
The 34th edition of AFCON is scheduled to kick off from January 13 to February 11.
