Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ibrahim Sannie Daara, believes newly invited defender Derrick Köhn has the quality to permanently solve Ghana’s long-standing “left-back problems.”

The 26-year-old Union Berlin defender has earned his first Black Stars call-up after being named in Otto Addo’s 24-man squad for next month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali.

Köhn impressed during his loan spell at Werder Bremen last season, making 27 Bundesliga appearances and scoring two goals, before sealing a permanent switch to Union Berlin this summer.

“Derrick Köhn will be the most influential foreign-born player for Ghana since Kevin-Prince Boateng,” Sannie wrote on social media.
“Three years ago, I asked Otto why he was not called for the Black Stars. Otto said the talented player was not yet ready. Köhn will permanently solve our left-back problems.”
