When weight loss is the ultimate goal, a person tries all sorts of tips and tricks to achieve it. As per conventional weight loss wisdom, regular exercise and a healthy diet are the only ways to slim down. But scientists have recently found out a new trick that can be beneficial for you if you are struggling to shed kilos. The best part is that it is very easy and takes just 15 minutes a day.
So, what do you have to do?
Just log down what you eat every day when you are following a weight loss plan. It is that simple!

The studyAs per a study published in the journal, Obesity, people who do this every day are the ones watching their number on the scale go down. The study was conducted by researchers at the University of Vermont and the University of South California, which involved 150 participants. The participants were asked to keep a track on what they ate for six months as part of their weight loss program.

They were asked to record the calorie and fat intake for all foods and beverages they consumed on a particular day. In the end, it was observed that those who lost 10 percent of their body weight (which was the most in the entire group) spent around 23 minutes to record their daily food intake every day during the first month of the program. By the end of the research, the time dropped to 14.6 minutes.

However, it does not really matter how much time a person takes to jot down the details of his daily food intake. Jean Harvey, chairman of the Nutrition and Food Sciences Department at the University of Vermont said that it is the act of self-monitoring that makes a huge difference. "Those who self-monitored three or more times per day were consistent and were successful to achieve their weight loss goal," he added.

Bottom line This study encourages dieters to use tracking apps when trying to shed kilos. It also wants people to believe that tracking food intake does not really take time. It is true that people hate it, but this is an important task.
