The Minister for National Security, Hon Albert Kan-Dapaah has led a high-powered security delegation comprising the Upper East Regional Minister and Head of the Regional Security Council, Hon. Stephen Yakubu, the Deputy National Security Coordinator, Hon Edward Kwaku Asomani, Chief of the Army Staff, Maj Gen Thomas Oppong- Peprah and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice-Marshal Frank Hanson on a visit to the 11 Mechanised Battalion Area of Operation including Bawku and Mognori Detachments in the Upper East Region.

The visit was necessitated by the emerging threats of terrorism along the northern frontiers of the country and the national efforts to ward off these terrorists.

It would be recalled that the Ghana Armed Forces with sister security services had embarked on several counter-terrorism training exercises and operations with the collaboration of their international partners in recent years to deter and rid the country of any terrorist element or threat while protecting the citizenry and national assets. These exercises were Exercise Eagle Claws, Exercise Burning Arrow and Operation CONQUERED FIST among others.

The delegation visited Pulmakom Detachment to ascertain at firsthand, the bare facts as regards force protection, boundary issues with neighboring countries and the total welfare of troops. They also visited the Mognori detachment in the Bawku Municipality.

The Commanding Officer, 11 Mechanised Battalion, Lt Col Minta-Agyemang briefed the Minister and his entourage on the operations, training, and logistics matters in his Area of Operation.

In a Durbar with troops at both detachments, the Minister commended the Soldiers for the good work done so far. He noted that personnel of the Unit had stayed true to their constitutional mandate to protect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ghana at all times.

Hon Kan Dapaah said Government was aware of the challenges personnel faced and efforts have been made to deliver the necessary resources to enable them to work effectively and efficiently.

The Minister, therefore, encouraged them to remain professional, hardworking, and vigilant in order to continue to protect the northeastern frontiers of the country.

Other members of the delegation included the General Officer Commanding Northern Command, Brig Gen Moses Aryee, Heads of Security Services in the Upper East Region, and Staff Officers from Army Headquarters and Northern Command.
