Semenyo strikes again as Manchester City are held by Spurs to a 2-2 draw
1st February 2026
Antoine Semenyo continued his impressive start to life at Manchester City, scoring for the second Premier League game in a row as Pep Guardiola’s side were held to a 2-2 draw by Tottenham Hotspur in north London.
City looked in control in the first half after Rayan Cherki opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a composed finish. Semenyo then doubled the advantage just before the break, netting City’s second in the 44th minute to cap another energetic display from the Ghanaian forward.
But Tottenham mounted a strong response after the interval. Dominic Solanke pulled one back in the 53rd minute, before completing his brace in the 70th to level the contest and earn Spurs a point at home.
Despite City’s frustration at letting a two-goal lead slip, Semenyo once again stood out. The 24-year-old has now scored in back-to-back Premier League matches, underlining his growing influence in Guardiola’s side.
His recent run of form has been eye-catching. Semenyo has found the net against Exeter, Newcastle, Wolves and now Tottenham, while also registering an assist, quickly endearing himself to City supporters with his direct running and fearlessness.
For a player still settling into Guardiola’s demanding system, Semenyo’s impact has been hard to ignore.
While City will lament missed opportunity to close the gap at the top with Arsenal, Semenyo’s rise offers plenty of encouragement, not just for the former champions, but for Ghanaian football fans watching one of their own shine on the Premier League stage.
