CAF has imposed a series of sanctions on Senegalese players and the Senegal Football Federation (FSF) following the disorderly scenes during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final against Morocco.
Wingers Ismaila Sarr and Iliman Ndiaye have each been suspended for two matches after being found guilty of unsporting behaviour towards the match referee during the heated encounter.
In addition, the Senegal FA has been fined $615,000 for the improper conduct of its supporters, after sections of fans invaded restricted areas of the stadium, clashed with security personnel and caused damage during the match interruption.
CAF said the punishment reflected the scale of the disturbance, while stressing that player protests and crowd disorder cannot be tolerated at major continental competitions.
Despite the sanctions, Senegal emerged from the final as champions, with their dramatic extra-time victory overshadowed by controversy rather than celebration.
The federation has acknowledged the ruling and reiterated its commitment to respecting CAF’s disciplinary framework, while focusing on restoring calm and unity around the national team.
