The Paramount Chief of the Goaso traditional area in the Ahafo Region, Nana Akwasi Bosomprah, has challenged the Electoral Commissioner, Madam Jean Mensa, to accept the calls for a forensic audit of the voter register.
According to the chief, it is incumbent on the EC to demonstrate the absence of ill will by allowing an independent audit of the voter roll to address the various concerns raised by the opposition National Democratic Congress.
“This morning, I read a press release by the woman, or the Electoral Commission if I should say, that she wants to meet with the NDC. But the point is that it has been said and done already; now we are demanding an independent audit. As we speak, if Otumfuo dispatches people to come and audit my leadership, I cannot reject it and ask that my own elders conduct the audit.
“So we plead with her to be flexible. We are a peace-loving nation. Listen to the concerns of the NDC. If the audit is done and nothing is found, no one would be arrested. You would rather be applauded. But I firmly believe there is some darkness in there. How do you stop light from being shown at a place you believe there is no darkness? I am challenging her as the paramount chief of Goaso that there are ills in the register; it needs deliverance…” he stated.
The paramount chief made the call during a campaign engagement by the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, former President John Dramani Mahama, with members of the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.
The NDC held a nationwide demonstration on Tuesday to press the Electoral Commission for a forensic audit of the voter register ahead of the December 7 general elections.
According to the party, it has identified various discrepancies in the existing voter roll which would require a thorough independent audit to resolve.
The party, at the end of Tuesday’s protest, presented a petition to the commission to press home their demands.
