Ghanaian singer Sista Afia has opened up about a disturbing encounter with a fan that turned violent, resulting in the individual being hospitalised after she struck him with a microphone.
Speaking on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty, the “Weather” hitmaker explained that she often feels uneasy when fans attempt to touch her as she makes her way to the stage.
“I hate it when people touch me when I’m going on stage, especially the fans. It makes me very uncomfortable. One time, somebody pressed me so hard, and I hit him with a mic. The person had to go to the hospital,” she revealed.
According to Sista Afia, the incident occurred during a live event when a fan inappropriately touched her private area as she tried to reach the stage. Feeling violated, she reacted instinctively by hitting the person with her microphone.
She added that although security personnel were present, poor event organisation left her exposed to the crowd, creating unsafe conditions for performers.
“Sometimes you have to pass through the crowd to get to the stage. When the guy did that, my first instinct was to find out who it was and hit him with the mic,” she recounted.
The singer criticised the lack of proper crowd control at some events, warning that such lapses put artists at risk of harassment and harm.
Reflecting more broadly on her career, Sista Afia also voiced her frustration about what she sees as limited recognition for her efforts in the Ghanaian music industry.
“I may never be a favourite in the music industry despite all my hard work,” she lamented.
