A popular newscaster with Kumasi-based Angel FM, Nana Asante Soaba has taken a swipe at the Kumasi Mayor, Hon Osei Assibey Antwi and officials of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), asking them to improve in their performance as city authorities.

According to him, the taxpayers in the Ashanti Regional capital are being cheated upon over unsatisfactory services provided them by the city authorities.

Speaking on the station’s breakfast show dubbed Angel in the Morning on Tuesday, Asante Soaba fired that Kumasi resident’s lives matter and that Mr Osei Assibey and the KMA officials cannot continue to put them as risk.

His comments come following failed attempts by the authorities in fixing damaged streetlights in parts of the Kumasi Metropolis.

The journalist disclosed that the streetlights from Suame Roundabout to Abrepo Junction through to the Suntreso Government Hospital, have all broken down without being fixed, a situation that has resulted in constant attacks on pedestrians who use that section of the city.

Soaba could not fathom why human lives should be put on the line all night long all because some people have failed to do their jobs.

“I’m worried about the current happenings in Kumasi. Honestly, I’m not happy. Mr Osei Assibey please sit up.  We have only two days to Christmas Eve but all the streetlights from Suame Roundabout to Suntreso Government Hospital are not working, so what benefit do we get from you and your officials as Kumasi authorities over the tax we are paying?”, he fired.

He continued, “Last week, robbers broke the glass of a pastor’s car and made away with his personal belongings. Apparently, the pastor had parked his car around and was on air preaching when this occurred; this is because the entire place has been left in the dark.”

He added, “I once was affected too, they opened the bonnet of my car and removed the battery. All these things continue to happen but we sit in Kumasi and say we have city authorities. What do we get from the KMA boss and his subordinates? Why did they accept to work when they knew they were incompetent?”

Kaakyire Asante Soaba, however, demanded of the KMA officials to fix the streetlights from Suame Roundabout to the Suntreso Government Hospital by next week Monday or he would be compelled to put them on their toes.

“I don’t know about other places but at least, I’m aware the streetlights from Suame Roundabout to the Suntreso Hospital stretch are not working, please fix them by Monday or we’ll  tell you what we know.” He cautioned.
