Ghanaian hiplife artiste, Tulenkey has revealed he is deliberately inactive on social media to focus more on his mental health.
In an interview on Daybreak Hitz with DJ Slim, the rapper explained that the constant barrage of notifications and digital distractions could to interfere with his productivity and peace of mind.
"Imagine you are in the office and you get notification [that] some girl is distracting you. Most people have their notifications on, because WhatsApp should be when you go online, that is when you reply messages. Like email, if you open our email, you never get a notification from your email unless you turn it on," he said.
Tulenkey noted that even a single notification could derail concentration, saying it could take as much as seven minutes to fully regain focus after being interrupted.
As a result, he has turned off notifications for all his apps. He also shared a personal boundary he now observes each day to protect his productivity.
"When I wake up from bed, until 12pm my phone is on 'do not disturb' because that is the time I do most of my work," he said.
Describing social media as overstimulating, Tulenkey likened it to a chaotic marketplace.
"One thing about social media is that it is in your face, there is a lot going on. It's too much. If you really meditate and seclude yourself from everything and you enter social media it looks like you have entered a market place. But we are used to that rush all the time. Even when you are on the water closet, you are on your phone so your mind does not even get the time to relax," he noted.
Tulenkey is currently promoting his latest music project, Barima, a song that highlights the often-overlooked issue of men’s mental health. The song is available on all major digital music platforms.
