President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has indicated that the double track system seeking to be rolled out by government in September will not be applicable in all Senior High Schools(SHS) in the country.

According to President Akufo-Addo, the policy would only be applicable in schools facing infrastructure challenges due to a large number of students admitted under the free SHS programme.

Speaking at the Asafotufiami festival for the people of big Ada in the Dangbe East of the Greater Accra Region, the president said the system would reduce class sizes and increase the number of holidays.

“This double track calendar system is not going to be applied to all senior high schools but only to those whose current capacity will be exceeded by the number of admitted students. This system will not destroy our educational system, as the professional naysayers would want you to believe,” he said

The NPP government has come under intense public criticism following the introduction of the policy which many stakeholders say will frustrate education in the second-cycle level.

But President Akufo-Addo has indicated that the policy would only be applicable in schools overwhelmed by infrastructure challenges due to a large number of students admitted under the free SHS programme.

In spite of the many criticisms on the double track system, government maintains that it’ll work smoothly, insisting that it has consulted widely on the programme.

Government has announced that it is set to roll out its double Tracking System which will be similar to the semester mode of learning applicable in the universities at the SHS level.

The objectives of the Double-track School Calendar are to create room to accommodate increase in enrolment, reduce class sizes, increase contact hours and to increase the number of holidays.
