Lee Jae Myung, President of South Korea, has prepared a set of symbolic gifts — including Ghana chocolate and a new Samsung smartphone — for John Dramani Mahama during the Ghanaian leader’s official visit to the Asian nation.

President Mahama is currently in South Korea for summit talks with President Lee, as part of a five-day official visit that began on Tuesday.

According to presi\dential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung, President Lee arranged for specially packaged Ghana chocolate to be delivered to Mahama’s hotel ahead of their meeting.

Special Chocolate with Ghanaian Roots

The chocolate was produced by South Korean confectionery company Lotte and customised with Mahama’s name along with the national flags of Ghana and South Korea.

The product holds particular significance because it is made with cocoa sourced largely from Ghana, which accounts for more than 80 percent of its ingredients.

Officials said the gift also carries personal meaning for President Lee, who reportedly received the same chocolate from a child during a hunger strike in September 2023.

Samsung’s Latest Smartphone

In addition to the chocolate, President Lee is expected to present Mahama with the latest flagship smartphone from Samsung Electronics, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, which was released last month.

The device is intended to showcase South Korea’s technological advancement and industrial strength.

Symbol of Maritime Cooperation

A traditional Korean folk painting depicting naval training during the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910) has also been prepared as a gift.

According to President Lee’s office, the artwork symbolises South Korea’s interest in strengthening maritime security cooperation with Ghana as the two countries seek to deepen diplomatic and economic ties.
