Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has declared that the Black Stars are “more than prepared” for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, expressing strong confidence in the team’s readiness despite recent setbacks.

Speaking at an event hosted by Chinese automaker Great Wall Motors (GWM), Adams emphasized that Ghana’s previous World Cup experiences have laid the foundation for a stronger showing next year.

“We went there [to previous World Cups] to learn, so we have learnt something — and we are more than prepared for next year’s Mundial. We will come back with something great,” he said.

Ghana secured qualification for the expanded 48-team tournament after finishing top of Group I in the CAF qualifiers, earning one of Africa’s nine automatic slots. The 2026 World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Black Stars will be making their fifth appearance at the global showpiece, with their best performance coming in 2010 when they reached the quarterfinals. However, they have failed to progress beyond the group stage in their last two appearances (2014 and 2022).

Adams’ remarks come in the wake of back-to-back defeats in the Kirin Challenge Cup — a 2-0 loss to Japan and a narrow 1-0 defeat to South Korea — results that have raised questions about the team’s current form.

To support the campaign, Minister of Finance Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced a GHC150 million allocation for the Black Stars’ World Cup preparations and participation.
